Who is Charnell Ferguson?

" Her Story " The Prince George's Native. Less Talk. More Action.

From Protest to Policy "Making A Difference"

Charnell Ferguson is a public servant shaped by her upbringing—by family, community, and the belief that people are strongest when they look out for one another. Those early lessons continue to guide how she leads, listens, and serves.

Growing up, Charnell saw how local decisions affect everyday life—schools, neighborhoods, safety, and opportunity. That perspective instilled a deep sense of responsibility and a commitment to making government responsive, fair, and accessible for all residents regardless of their zip code.

With county-wide experience, Charnell brings a full-picture approach to leadership while staying grounded in the needs of individual communities. She leads with integrity, collaboration, and a focus on results that improve daily life.

At the age of 21, Ferguson re-established the NAACP at Bowie State University making a huge commitment to improve the lives of her peers on campus and to the broader Prince George's County community. Her most notable historic act was holding a press conference calling for Justice for her classmate, Second Lt. Richard Collins III.

In 2016, she had the opportunity to speak for Rev. Jesse Jackson on the importance of voting to her peers. Her civil rights efforts led her to becoming the Maryland State NAACP Youth& College Division President. As President Ferguson organized her peers across the state to advocate for HBCU funding, environmental injustices, emergency contraception on college campuses and fighting for equality for all Marylanders. Ferguson is a notable activist who held a seat on the National Board of Directors with the NAACP for Region 7 (DC, MD, VA) advocating on a wide array of issues from criminal justice to international affairs.

During her journey, she worked at the Maryland State House and was selected as a CBCF (Congressional Black Caucus Foundation) Fellow with the Honorable Congressman John Conyers, Jr from Michigan's 13th Congressional District.
